Pandemonium and tears at the weekend enveloped Abraka community in Delta State when a 26-year-old microbiology student of the State-owned University (DELSU) identified as Evelyn Mogekwu allegedly committed suicide after being jilted by her fiance.
Reports said the end of the seven-year relationship traumatised the girl as all plans to walk down the aisle failed to materialise.
Sources said the girl was in high spirits in her hostel but her mood changed dramatically and she became dejected after her fiance called her on phone to declare that their relationship over.
She was said to have bought some drugs, claiming she was having a head ache and went into her room, leaving a message for roommate that they might not see again.
Few minutes later, her roommate who sensed something terrible was going on, raced into the room and found her lying lifeless on ground.
She raised an alarm that attracted other students to the room, but before help came the girl’s way, she had given up the ghost.
Confirming her death, some senior police officers at the Abraka Police Division, who did not want their names in the print, said they recovered particles of drugs on the ground beside the deceased, adding that her roommate is currently being detained for interrogation.

Kendall Jenner, 19, and her friends, including good pal Hailey Baldwin, 18, went to a tattoo parlor together in New York City on June 16 to get friendship ink. While Kendall may be loving her new tat, her big sister Kim kardashian, 34, might not be too thrilled over it!
OK, so Kenny’s tattoo is super small, so Kim shouldn’t exactly sweat it. She inked a tiny white dot on her middle finger, while her friends from Hillsong Church, Joe Termini and singer Harry Hudson got the exact same tattoo. #Twinning! In a recent interview with YES magazine, the singer said: ‘I have great plans and I’m really working hard towards them. I have a studio in my house and I have been doing a lot of recordings. The album is going to be a combination of hip hop, R&B, Reggae etc.’ The forthcoming album is Iyanya’s 3rd album following previous releases such as My Story, his debut album released in 2011 and his second album, Desire which followed in 2013. Davido just released a hot video with meek mill
Barring any last minute changes, Davido will release his single entitled ‘Fans Mi’ which he did together with American pop star, Meek Mill tomorrow.
Sometime last month the Nigerian pop star had intimated his fans on his Instagram page of his collaboration with Meek Mill which he said will be featured in his sophomore album.
Already the artwork for ‘Fan Mi’ is already with snippets from the video shared on Instagram.
‘Fans Mi’ will be released alongside its video, which was directed by the prolific Sesan Ogunro and has been described by Davido as “the most expensive music video of his career.” The song is among other songs on his sophomore album, ‘Baddest’ scheduled for release on a later date.
